REACH LEADERBOARD
Reach is a base-10 measure of audience size and the foundation of VRGE analytics.
Because most Discord communities are small (<100), tiering by magnitude enables clearer segmentation and benchmarking.
- Millions: ≥ 1,000,000
- Massive: 100,000 - 999,999
- Large: 10,000 - 99,999
- Midsized: 1,000 - 9,999
- Small: 100 - 999
- Micro: Less than 100

GROWTH SCORING
Which communities are showing weekly growth? How are you ranking them?
We are using the z-score of the percent of growth relative to the size of the community. Think of a z-score as a “how unusual was this week?” meter for your percent growth.
Why use percent of size?
It makes comparisons fair. Adding 50 people to a 100-member server (+50%) is very different from adding 50 to a 100,000-member server (+0.05%).
Percent growth levels the playing field.
How are you scoring and ranking communities?
We are using the z-score of the percent of growth relative to the size of the community. Think of a z-score as a “how unusual was this week or month?” meter for your percent growth.
Why use percent of size?
It makes comparisons fair. Adding 50 people to a 100-member server (+50%) is very different from adding 50 to a 100,000-member server (+0.05%).
Percent growth levels the playing field.
How to calculate z-scores:
- Your week's percent growth: Imagine your community membership grew 72% this week.
- Typical week across everyone: We look at the average percent growth of all communities that same week (e.g. 1.6%).
- Typical deviations: Community data bounces around week to week; we measure that usual bounce in steps aka standard deviations (e.g. 31.4%).
- How many steps above/below average are you?
- (Your % − Average %) ÷ Typical step = z-score
- (72% − 1.6%) ÷ 31.4% = 2.24 z-score
- What 2.24 means: your week was two "typical steps" above average—a standout growth week compared to other communities.
How to read z-scores:
- ~0 -> about average
- +1 -> stronger than usual
- +2 -> standout week
- +3 or more -> rare accomplishment
- Negative -> slower than usual (or shrinking)
ENGAGEMENT SCORING
What "% Members Online" means
It’s the share of your members who are currently logged into Discord right now.
Think of it as your "people in the building" rate. They might be browsing other servers, but because they’re on Discord, they’re just one click (or one ping) away from popping into yours.
Why it’s a good proxy for potential audience
- Availability: If they’re on Discord, they can see notifications and hop into your community instantly.
- Intent: Being online means they’re in a "Discord mindset", more likely to read, react, or chat.
- Comparability: Using a percentage makes big and small servers comparable (27% of 14k is a huge reachable audience).
- Timing: Spikes tell you when posts, announcements, or events will reach the most people.
Reading the Potential Audience Activation rating
Answers the question: "How unusually high (or low) is our % online compared to other communities right now?"
- 1
-> typical availability
- 2
-> more members are online than usual
- 3+
-> standout "eyes-on-Discord" window of opportunity
